Statistical Review: Australia vs Pakistan – Day 2 Of The First Test

At stumps on day 2 of the 1st Test (day/night) between Australia and Pakistan at Brisbane, Pakistan is in deep trouble. Australia began the day on their overnight score 288/3 and made 429 runs before they were bundled out.
In reply, Pakistan batsmen struggled against Australian bowlers. At the end of the day, Pakistan was 97/8 and they are behind 332 runs from Australia’s first innings total.

- Australian skipper Steven Smith scored 130 runs in the first innings of Australian innings. It is the new highest day-night Test score by a captain. The previous highest was 118* by Faf du Plessis (South Africa) against Australia at Adelaide in 2016.
- Apart from Steven Smith, another Australian batsman Peter Handscomb (105) also hit a century during Australia’s first innings in this Test. It was the first instance in day-night Test history where more than one batsman hit a century in an innings.
- Australia made 429 runs in their first innings. It was the second highest total in day-night Test history. The highest total in day-night Test history is 579/3 (decl.) by Pakistan against West Indies at Dubai (DSC) in 2016.
- Pakistan left-arm pacers Mohammad Amir (4/97) and Wahab Riaz (4/89) took total 8 wickets during Australian innings. It was the first time where Pakistan left-arm pacers took a total of 8 or more wickets against Australia in a Test innings.
Also, it ( an instance of 8 wickets) was the highest no. of total wickets taken by left-arm pacers in a day-night Test innings.
