On Day 2 of the first Test between Australia and South Africa at Perth, South Africa made an impressive comeback into the match. Australia began the day from their overnight score of 105/0 but after a collapse, they were bowled out for 244 runs. Australia took just 2 runs lead over South Africa after the end of the first innings fight.
South African batting is looking much better in the second innings as they were 104/2 at the stumps of day 2. At the end of day 2, South Africa is leading by 102 runs over the host.

- Australian openers David Warner and Shaun Marsh put on a brilliant 158-run opening partnership during Australia’s first innings in this Test. It was the 4th highest Test opening partnership for Australia against South Africa on Australian soil.
- On Day Two, Australian opening batsman David Warner was dismissed for 97 runs. It was his first dismissal in nervous nineties in Test career and also the third nervous nineties (2 in ODIs and 1 in Test) in international cricket in this calendar year (2016).
Also, Warner became the Fifth Australian Test opener to score nervous nineties against South Africa at home soil.
- On Day 2, a total of four batsmen were dismissed on duck during Australia’s first innings. It was the second time that a total of 4 Australian batsmen were dismissed on duck in a Test innings against South Africa. The previous one was at Cape Town in 2011 where total 4 Australian batsmen were dismissed on duck during the 3rd innings of that Test.
However, there were no such incidents till this innings where more than 4 Australian batsmen were dismissed on duck in a Test innings against South Africa.
- Debutant South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj bowled very well during Australia’s first innings. Maharaj’s final bowling figure in that innings were 18.2-5-56-3. It was the best bowling figures in a Test innings by a South African Test debutant spinner against Australia.
- South African pacer Vernon Philander bowled impressively on the day as his final bowling figure at the end of Australia’s first innings were 19.2-2-56-4. It was the third best bowling figure by a South African bowler in a Test innings at Perth.
