On the Sunday, 22nd January 2017, Sri Lanka finally clinched an international win on the current South African tour. Sri Lanka beat the hosts South Africa by 3 wickets in 2nd T20I of the series at Johannesburg. After winning the toss, South Africa decided to bat first but they were bowled out for just 113 (19.3 overs)
In reply, Sri Lanka was struggling very much but finally, they chased that total in 19.4 overs after losing 7 wickets (119/7).
With this result, the 3-match T20I series is levelled 1-1. The third and final T20I match of this series will be played on next Wednesday (25th January 2017) at Cape Town.

- South Africa were bowled out for 113 runs. It is South Africa’s second lowest T20I total in their completed innings. South Africa’s lowest T20I total in completed innings is 100 against Pakistan at Centurion on 3rd March 2013.
- Heino Kuhn was the highest runs scorer in South African innings as he scored 29 runs. It is joint 3rd lowest ‘highest innings score’ for South Africa in T20I innings (T20I matches which had no reduction in overs).
- Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Dinesh Chandimal affected total 4 dismissals (3 catches and 1 stumpings) in this match which is the highest no.of dismissals made by a Sri Lankan wicket-keeper in a T20I match. The previous record holder was Kumar Sangakkara who had made 3 dismissals in a T20I match for thrice.
Out of those 4 dismissals by Dinesh Chandimal, 3 were through catches taken. It is also the highest no. of catches taken by a Sri Lankan wicket-keeper in a T20I match.
- Debutant Sri Lankan left-arm chinaman Lakshan Sandakan bowled very impressive in this match as his bowling figure was 4-0-23-4. It is the 3rd best bowling figure by a Sri Lankan debutant T20I bowler. The top two in this list are 4/15 by Ajantha Mendis (against Zimbabwe at King City, NW on 10th October 2008) and 4/19 by Kaushalya Weeraratne (against Pakistan at King City, NW on 11th October 2008).
Lakshan Sandakan took a wicket in the first ball of his T20I career. Sandakan became the first Sri Lankan bowler and 15th overall bowler to take a wicket in the first ball of T20I career.
- Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Matthews played a brilliant unbeaten 54-runs innings which led his to win this T20I match. It was the 5th T20I half-century by a Sri Lankan captain outside Asia and out of those, this was an only 2nd time in T20I chasing.
- South African pacer Lungi Ngidi bowled very well in this ODI as his bowling figure was 4-0-19-4. It is the 4th best T20I bowling figure by a South African bowler at home.
