  1. i) Indian opening batsman KL Rahul hit a brilliant century and scored 158 runs before getting out. With this century, KL Rahul became the first Indian opener to score a century in his maiden Test innings in West Indies. Previous best was 96 runs by Ajay Jadeja at St. John’s in 1997.

ii) KL Rahul also became the 5th Indian batsman to score a century in his maiden Test innings in West Indies. KL Rahul’s 158 runs is the highest score by an Indian batsman in his maiden Test innings in West Indies. Previous best was 130 runs by Polly Umrigar at Port of Spain in 1953.

iii) Also, KL Rahul’s 158 runs knock was the 3rd highest score by visiting players in their maiden innings in West Indies. The other two highest scores were: 223* by Glenn Turner (New Zealand) at Sabina Park in 1972 and 163 by Andrew Hudson (South Africa) at Bridgetown in 1992.

iv) KL Rahul became 8th Indian opening batsman to score 150+ in a Test innings at West Indies. KL Rahul’s 158 was the highest score by an Indian opening batsman at Sabina Park (previous best was 150 by Pankaj Roy in 1953). Apart from that, Rahul’s 158 is also the 2nd highest score by an Indian batsman at Sabina Park Test (highest score is 212 by Dilip Sardesai)

v) KL Rahul hit 3 sixes during his 158 runs innings. It is the joint second most no. of sixes hit by an Indian batsman in a Test innings in West Indies. MS Dhoni hit highest no. of sixes as an Indian batsman in a Test innings in West Indies and that is 6 sixes at St. John’s in 2006.

 

  1. KL Rahul became the 2nd Indian batsman to convert his first 3 half-centuries into centuries. Before Rahul, former Indian player Mohammad Azharuddin is the other Indian batsman to do this.

 

  1. Indian batsmen KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara put a brilliant 121 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. It is the second highest partnership for India’s 2nd wicket at Sabina Park Test history. The highest India’s 2nd wicket partnership at Sabina Park Test is 237 between Pankaj Roy and Vijay Manjrekar in 1953.

Indian batsmen KL Rahul and Virat Kohli put on a 69 run-partnership for the 3rd wicket, which is the joint second highest partnership for the India’s 3rd wicket at Sabina Park Test with the other being Shiv Sunder Das and Sachin Tendulkar also put on a 69 runs partnership for the 3rd wicket in 2002. The highest India’s 3rd wicket partnership at Sabina Park Test is 74 runs between Arun Lal and Sanjay Manjrekar in 1989.
