Indian opener Rohit Sharma was one run short from a well-deserved ODI hundred on Saturday against Australia. The right-hander batsman was caught by the Australian wicket-keeper Matthew Wade at the score of 99 runs. Yet India won the match in the last over. However, there was a big doubt about the dismissal, but that can’t give back his century now.
There are numerous players who got out in nervous nineties (nervous nineties meaning- a batsman who get out between 90 and 99 runs), but being dismissed on 99 runs is the most unlucky for a batsman who missed an opportunity to get a hundred. It was not the first time in ODI cricket that an Indian batsman got out at 99 runs. Rohit Sharma became the 6th Indian batsman and 8th instance when an Indian batsman got out at 99 runs in ODIs.
Krishnamachari Srikkanth was the first Indian batsman and third overall batsman in ODI to get out on 99 runs. He was dismissed lbw by England bowler Mike Gatting. The other four batsmen were VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Only Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed more than once on 99 runs in ODI among the Indian batsmen. Sachin was dismissed three times at 99 runs which is most by any batsman in the ODI cricket.
