Mahendra Singh Dhoni was not only one of the best Indian captains but also one of the top captains in International cricket. After spending a successful time as Indian captain, recently Dhoni bid adieu to his captaincy.
At the end of 2014, captain Dhoni had announced retirement from Test cricket.
Now in the beginning of 2017, Dhoni said goodbye from limited-overs captaincy. Under his captaincy, Indian cricket achieved much success in international cricket.

- Captained most international matches. MS Dhoni led total 331 international matches (60 Tests, 199 ODIs and 72 T20Is) and all of them for his nation (India).
Also, Dhoni captained most T20I matches as he captained in 72 T20Is.
- Most matches win as a T20I captain. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India won 41 T20Is.
- Only captain to win all 3 ICC trophies. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India clinched ICC World T20 (2007), ICC Cricket World Cup (2011) and ICC Champions Trophy (2013).
- Most sixes hit in international cricket as a captain as well as most sixes hit as an ODI captain. Indian skipper MS Dhoni hit total 211 sixes (51 in Tests and 34 in T20Is) out of which 126 were in ODIs.
- As a wicketkeeper-captain, most dismissals effected in a Test match. Wicketkeeper-captain MS Dhoni made total 9 dismissals (8 catches taken and 1 stumping made) in a Test match against Australia at Melbourne in the 2014 Boxing Day Test match (also it was Dhoni’s last Test match both as a captain and as a cricketer).
- Highest runs scored in a Test innings as a wicketkeeper-captain. Dhoni scored 224 runs during India’s first innings against Australia at Chennai in 2013. Also, it was the first Test double-century by a wicketkeeper-captain.
