He took over from MS Dhoni in 2014 and led the Indian team in 10 matches, winning 5 , losing 2 and drawing 3 matches. He made his highest score as a captain beating his 169 against Australia. Kohli surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin to enter into the list of top scorers list. Kohli scored 200 during the ongoing first test match against West Indies played at Antigua. During that innings he faced 283 balls, smashing 24 boundaries. He spent a lot of time during the double century knock.
