Sunil Gavaskar Reveals His Favourite Side For The Upcoming World Cup
The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup is just less than three months away to begin. While every team is busy in their final preparation, the cricket experts are busy picking up their favourite teams and favourite World Cup squads. Recently, the legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has named his favourite side for the upcoming World Cup.
The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup will be the 12th edition of this tournament. England and Wales will host the forthcoming tournament from 30th May to 14th July. It will be the fifth time for England to host this most prestigious cricket tournament. Earlier, England hosted this tournament in 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1999.
Coming to the upcoming World Cup, the top ten teams will participate in this tournament. These teams are England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Windies.
In the last two World Cups, the finals’ host nations won those tournaments. India won their second World Cup trophy in 2011 when they hosted the final of the competition (at Mumbai). Meanwhile, Australia won the record fifth World Cup trophy in the previous edition (2015) when they hosted the final of the tournament (at Melbourne).
Sunil Gavaskar believes England can emulate the last two WC host sides’ records
On the other hand, England will host the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup Final at The Lord’s (London) on 14th July. Sunil Gavaskar believes that England can emulate this flow in the upcoming World Cup.
Sunil Gavaskar told at the British High Commissioner’s residence on Tuesday (12th March), “If you go by the history of last two or three World Cups, in 2011 the host nation India won, in 2015 host nation Australia won. In 2019, there is a very good chance that England will win the World Cup.”
England has never won the Cricket World Cup. The present English side is desperate to end this embarrassing drought in the upcoming tournament. Currently, the England cricket team is leading the ICC ODI team rankings chart.
The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to India’s comment
In the meantime, the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to India, Dominic Asquith is hopeful that England men’s team will beat the Indian men’s cricket team in the upcoming World Cup. In the forthcoming World Cup, they will meet on 30th June at Edgbaston (Birmingham).
Wishing about the best result in that game, he also pointed out the recent success of England women’s cricket team in India.
He said, “Last week, we celebrated International Women’s Day. For England’s women cricketers it coincided with the victory over India’s T20 team.
“Over the course of this summer, we are delighted that we will host India and of course teams at the cricket World Cup. On Sunday, June 30 we probably all know already there will be quite a match at Edgbaston. And we will see if England’s men can emulate their female compatriots.”
Recently, England women’s cricket team won the three-match T20I series against the host India women by 3-0. However, earlier, they suffered the 2-1 defeat in the three-match ODI series in the same tour.
