Due to his silence about his future, the cricket world is raising the speculation on Dhoni’s career. Many believe that the former Indian captain will announce his retirement from international cricket very soon. However, recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has clarified that Dhoni has no retirement plan soon.

Suresh Raina has played very long cricket with MS Dhoni. Apart from national duty, they are also serving in the IPL team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from the inaugural season. Raina feels that only the experienced wicketkeeper-batsman should decide his retirement time from cricket.

Suresh Raina gave his view on MS Dhoni’s no.7 batting position in the CWC 2019 semifinal

The wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni played an important role for India during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He scored 273 runs in eight innings of that tournament with an average of 45.50. The right-handed batsman hit two half-centuries in that tournament.

Many have raised questions over Dhoni’s batting position during the semifinal of CWC 2019 against New Zealand. While he scored the fighting 50 runs after coming to bat at no.7 position, many believe that India could win that game if he came earlier to bat.

Chasing down the 240 runs target in the reserve-day of that semifinal, India were once struggling on 92/6. MS Dhoni (50 runs) and Ravindra Jadeja (77 runs) fought very hard and provided a 116-run partnership for the seventh wicket. But India still lost that game by 18 runs.

Suresh Raina also believes that Dhoni could provide more benefit if he came to bat earlier in that game. He further added that India still could manage the incredible victory if Martin Guptill didn’t manage the direct hit to run-out Dhoni.

Raina said, “Had he come earlier, he could have guided Pant and then we still had Pandya and Jadeja. Even then he kept India in the fight till the very end and we would have won but for the direct hit from Guptill.”
