Suresh Raina, who missed out on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 citing personal reasons, has heaped praise on his former Indian teammate Shikhar Dhawan for his brilliant performance in the recently concluded season.
While taking on ‘Kapil Sharma Show’, Suresh Raina, who along with his wife Priyanka, was a guest on the show, revealed that Delhi Capitals‘ batting mainstay always live up to his words. He said that Shikhar Dhawan is one of those players who would say ‘Look what your pal does’ before entering the field and then, stand on it more often than not.
“Shikhar says it, and he does it. See what your pal does. He is ready. He is performing so well Scoring back-to-back hundreds is not easy. Earlier, he’s gotten out on 90, 97, 99, but this year scoring two centuries, I mean… he’s a good man,” Suresh Raina said.
Shikhar Dhawan became the first batsman to score consecutive centuries in IPL:
Shikhar Dhawan ended the IPL 2020 as the second-highest scorer of the season although could not help his team to lift the maiden IPL trophy. He scored 618 runs in 17 matches at a strike rate of 144.73 and an average of 44.14. The southpaw even achieved the unique feat of scoring back-to-back centuries to become the first batsman to do it in IPL history.
Against Chennai Super Kings, Dhawan guided DC home with a fabulous maiden hundred and followed it with a second three-figure score in the next game against Kings XI Punjab, where he took just 57 balls to reach the landmark. Dhawan joined the prestigious 5000-run club in the IPL.
But the left-hand batsman didn’t have a good outing against Mumbai Indians, who eventually won the IPL 2020. As his opening partner was struggling, he had the pressure to put a good score and him being out early against MI costed DC. But as the next season is only four months away, Shikhar Dhawan will look to fulfil the IPL trophy dream for Delhi.
