Injuries have been a part and parcel of many senior Indian players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Shikhar Dhawan, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhubaneswar Kumar, and Deepak Chahar getting injured and missing most of the matches during the season before the coronavirus COVID-19 meant lockdowns, cancellations, and postponements of cricket matches.

Shikhar Dhawan’s injury in the 2019 World Cup hurt India most as his substitute Rishabh Pant failed to perform and Vijay Shankar’s injury gave opener Mayank Agarwal an opportunity but he too did not get to prove himself on the big stage. India received another jolt when Ambati Rayudu on being ignored decided to retire. He however did a U-turn but still has not got another opportunity to prove himself in Indian colors. Suresh Raina did not get injured that often which was a good sign until his retirement.
