Suryakumar Yadav hit a first-ball six against Jofra Archer off the first ball he faced in international cricket, on Thursday evening, and left everyone amazed during the penultimate T20I.
Suryakumar Yadav hit his maiden fifty in international cricket, on Thursday, in only his 2nd match in Indian Blues. The 30-year-old, on his debut in the 2nd T20I, did not get a chance to bat but made it count off the first opportunity he was bestowed with and started off his international batting career with style.
Suryakumar Yadav Who Never Dreamt Of Playing For India Starts His International Career With A Six Off Jofra Archer
He smashed a six off Jofra Archer on his first-ever ball in international cricket after Ishan Kishan’s hamstring injury paved way for him in the 4th T20I in Ahmedabad.
“Really happy with the way things went. I have always dreamt of playing for India and winning games for the team,” Suryakumar, MoM for his 31-ball 57, said at the post-match presentation.
“We have seen him [Suryakumar Yadav] play out of the box, unorthodox shots in the IPL. Today, as well, we saw him opening his account in international cricket with a six over fine-leg,” Shardul Thakur said in a video posted by the BCCI.
“So tell us a little bit about the shot. How was it developed and how did you get that confidence to play that shot off the first delivery you faced in international cricket that too against a bowler like Jofra Archer,” Shardul asks Suryakumar.
“I have always seen him [ Jofra Archer] whenever a new batsman is up against him in international cricket, he tries to keep the batter on their backfoot. And I have played some matches over the years against him in the IPL so I have an idea about that.”
“This shot [the six over fine leg] is a shot that I have been playing for a long time, since my local cricket days. I have played this shot in local cricket, domestic cricket and now in international cricket,” Suryakumar responded.
Suryakumar Yadav hooked pacer Jofra Archer for a six after coming on to bat at number three in the fourth T20I between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He was sent to bat at number three after India lost opener Rohit Sharma early in the innings.
While Rohit Sharma started the match with a first-ball six off Adil Rashid, the Hitman was dismissed by Jofra Archer. The England pacer tried to rattle Suryakumar Yadav, who was playing his first delivery in international cricket, with a bouncer but the Mumbai batsman connected well to dispatch the ball for a six.
Suryakumar Yadav Earns Maiden ODI Call Up
Suryakumar Yadav has been handed a maiden ODI call-up after an impressive show in the ongoing T20Is while fast bowler Prasidh Krishna and spinner Krunal Pandya has been added to the squad which will be led by Virat Kohli.
The Mumbaikar scored more than 400 runs in each of the last 3 IPL editions which were hailed by fans and he felt disappointed when his name wasn’t in the Australian tour’s limited-overs squad. Suryakumar Yadav has been in stellar form in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021. The Mumbaikar smashed 332 runs in the five matches he has played, doing so at an excellent average of 66.40 and an outstanding strike rate of 151.59.
Suryakumar Yadav is vastly experienced in the shortest format of the game. He has featured in 170 T20 games. In 150 innings, he has mustered 3,567 runs at an average close to 32 and a strike rate slightly over 140.
In the 2018 edition of the tournament, he scored 512 runs in 14 games, a commendable effort for someone who plays as a middle-order batsman. In 2019 and 2020, he played a crucial part in Mumbai Indians’ (MI) victorious runs. While he accrued 424 runs in IPL 2019, he upped his game in IPL 2020. He scored 480 runs in 16 matches in the last edition of the league at an average of 40.
