T20 Mumbai League 2019: Captain Prithvi Shaw Guides North Mumbai Panthers To Win Their Maiden Trophy
Prithvi Shaw-led North Mumbai Panthers won their maiden T20 Mumbai League crown on last Sunday (26th May) night when they beat SoBo SuperSonics by 12 runs in the final of the 2019 T20 Mumbai League. Captain Prithvi Shaw’s brilliant batting and some impressive bowling performances helped North Mumbai Panthers to win this tournament.
Prithvi Shaw played a captain’s knock
It was the second edition of this tournament. In this final match, Prithvi Shaw decided to bat first after winning the toss. While his team was losing their wickets at regular intervals, opening batsman Prithvi Shaw played a brilliant responsible innings to set a fighting first innings total.
Shaw scored an unbeaten 61 runs off 55 balls (3 fours and 2 sixes) while his team managed to score 143/7 (20 overs). Apart from him, only the no.4 wicketkeeper-batsman Swapnil Salvi (18 runs) and the no.6 batsman Shashikant Kadam (37 runs) reached the double-digit marks in that innings.
Among the opposition bowlers, Deepak Shetty picked up three wickets (3/24). Meanwhile, Rohan Raje (2/27) and Dhrumil Matkar (2/27) also claimed two wickets each.
SoBo SuperSonics only managed to score 131 runs
In reply, SoBo SuperSonics managed to score only 131 runs (19.4 overs) before getting all-out. During that chasing, they never built up any solid partnerships, except the 45-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Only the no.4 batsman Parag Khanapurkar (43 runs) and the opener & captain Jay Bista (21 runs) crossed the 20-run marks.
Atif Attarwala (3/20) and Prathamesh Dake (3/19) both took three wickets while Pravin Tambe (2/38) bagged two wickets. Also, Rahul Sawant (1/21) picked up one wicket in that innings.
Atif Attarwala won the Player of the Match award in this final. Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw won the Player of the Tournament award for finishing this season as the leading run-scorer. Shaw scored 249 runs in six matches of this tournament with an average of 49.80 and strike-rate of 149.10. He scored three half-centuries in this season, including his best knock of 76 runs.
Last year was the first edition of this tournament. Triumph Knights Mumbai North East was the champions in that edition. In the final of 2018 T20 Mumbai League, they beat Shivaji Park Lions by just three runs.
In this season, Triumph Knights Mumbai North East was in the Group A, and Shivaji Park Lions was in the Group B. Both these teams finished at the last positions in their respective Groups. However, Shivaji Park Lions was the only team in this season who failed to open their points account.
