Taskin Ahmed to Replace Abu Jayed in Bangladesh’s World Cup Squad
Bangladesh sparked a massive surprise by picking up the uncapped pace bowler Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi for the World Cup, overlooking the experience Taskin Ahmed. Ahmed burst into tears on hearing this and vowed to keep trying hard to earn his place back. The selectors have now taken the call to include the speedster in the World Cup, with the uncapped pacer reported to fly as the 16th man with the side.
Taskin Ahmed’s exclusion gave a considerable shock when he couldn’t make it to the ongoing tri-series, also involving the Windies and Ireland. He proved his fitness by picking up three wickets against Ireland Wolves in a warm-up game. On the contrary, Rahi remained on the sidelines, owing to his injury concern.
Taskin Ahmed gets a place.
A source from the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the inclusion of Ahmed after there were reservations over Rahi’s fitness. Although Rahi is fit to bowl in the nets, there could be some more time before he could be back in full shape.
“He (Rahi) didn’t bowl for many times after the BPL for his injury. The local physio told us that this injury would take Rahi 3 or 4 days to be fit again and to continue bowling in the nets again. But things aren’t going well according to the news as Rahi is in the position to bowl again in the nets just today,” Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu.
We have to make a change in the squad if there is any injury concern regarding any player of the team. But Rahi will go with us as a 16th man, and we’ll talk about it with the BCB president today ”, he added.
Taskin Ahmed had scalped nine wickets in the six matches of the World Cup 2015. Thus, he would like to come up with similar performance. The lanky fast bowler had last played for Bangladesh in 2017 against South Africa.
Bangladesh Cricket team are currently playing a tri-series in Ireland against the Windies and the hosts. They play two warm-up matches against Pakistan and India ahead of the World Cup before their opening match against South Africa on 2nd June at the Oval.
