Ten Cricketers Who Faced Tragic Death Due To On-Field Injury
Death is the most tragic part of any life. The real cricketers are always passionate about the game, but some of them lost their precious life due to any sudden accident on the cricket field. Every time, these incidents bring deep sorrow in the entire cricket family.
Here we are talking about the ten cricketers who tragically died due to the on-field injury.
George Summers (Nationality: England) – 1870
In 1870, during the match between Nottinghamshire and MCC at Lord’s, the 25-year-old Nottinghamshire batsman George Summers met a tragic accident. When he was facing the opposition right-arm pacer John Platts, one of his short deliveries hit on Summers’ left cheekbone (as per the footnotes by the scorer). Immediately after receiving that blow, Summers collapsed on the pitch. At that time, the Lord’s pitch was famously known for the poor pitch.
However, Summers wasn’t taken to the hospital as he seemed to recover from that blow with the time progress. After a few days of that match, Summers took a train to return to Nottinghamshire. But the cricketer couldn’t handle that rough train journey and lost his life due to the earlier cricket injury. While George Summers died on 19th June 1870, he missed his 26th birthday which was two days later of his death.
