Philip Hughes (Nationality: Australia) – 2014

Probably, it was the most discussed and highlighted incident among the tragic incidents in cricket history. During a Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and New South Wales in November 2014, South Australian opening batsman Phillip Hughes received a major blow on his head when he was facing the pacer Sean Abbott. He failed to handle that blow, collapsed on the pitch and was fell unconscious. At that time, he was batting on 63 runs.
Hughes was rushed to the St. Vincent’s Hospital (Sydney). That blow fractured his skull and also caused massive bleeding in his brain. Soon, Hughes underwent surgery and later moved into an induced coma. On 27th November 2014, two days after that tragic on-field blow, Hughes died. At that time, his 26th birthday was just three days away.
From 2009 to 2014, Hughes played 26 Tests, 25 ODIs and only T20I for Australia.
