Dilip Vengsarkar – 157 vs England at Lord’s in June 1982
England scored 433 runs in the first innings after deciding to bat first. In reply, India were bundled out for just 128 runs in their first innings. After they were forced to follow-on, when the Indian batsmen were struggling again, Dilip Vengsarkar played a memorable knock to bring some celebration in the Indian batting line-up.
Vengsarkar scored 157 runs off 264 balls (21 fours) while Kapil Dev also played a crucial knock of 89 runs off just 55 balls (13 fours and 3 sixes). Their batting massively saved the Indian team from the innings defeat but England finally secured a seven-wicket victory. After India were all-out on 369 runs in that innings, England chased down the 65 runs target by losing three wickets.
