The Hundred: Trent Rockets to Avail Stephen Fleming’s Services as a Head Coach
Former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming, who’s serving as a chief coach for Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is set to guide Nottingham-based Trent Rockets at The Hundred – the 100-ball eight-team tournament which will be played in July 2020.
In the past, during his heydays, Fleming has also represented Nottinghamshire to had a successful time as a player.
Overall, Fleming had a wealth of experience as a coach on his back.
For the Black Caps, Fleming has played a quintessential role as a leader who saw him leading his team to Test victories over England and India in particular.
Fleming has a strong CV as a coach:
In the IPL, Fleming helped three-time champions, CSK to lift two IPL titles apart from now-defunct Twenty20 Champions League when they won two trophies.
Also, he played a part for now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017. Back then, CKS faced a ban for at least two editions in connection with the 2013 spot-fixing scandal.
Following his role as a coach, he has also plied with Big Bash League (BBL) franchise, Melbourne Stars (MS).
Director of Cricket at Nottinghamshire, Mick Newell has expressed delight in having Fleming as a coach. He believes veteran cricketer is the right man to serve the cause.

In the meantime, Fleming has an excellent track record in the professional domestic T20 league tournaments.
“Fleming has expressed an interest and we have spoken to him. We want all the other coaches to come from this area. We think that’s the right model for this competition,” Newell said in a Rockets’ release.
Earlier, apart from Fleming, former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene alongside Andrew McDonald were considered for the maiden edition of the unique quick-paced format.
Besides, Jayawardene will help Southern Brave, whereas McDonald will guide Birmingham Phoenix.
Also, Fleming’s former Kiwis’ teammates Daniel Vettori and Shane Bond will also serve as an assistant during the competition.
The 46-year-old Fleming represented New Zealand between 1994 and 2008. He had featured in 280 innings apart from 11 Tests and five Twenty20 Internationals.
