Youngster Prithvi Shaw has finally returned to the Test cricket after more than one year. However, the senior New Zealand pacer Tim Southee bowled him with a superb outswinger during the first Test in Wellington.

In the ongoing New Zealand tour, India are playing the first Test of the two-match series from Friday (21st February). The hosts decided to field first after winning the toss.

The 20-year-old Shaw started the Indian innings along with his opening partner Mayank Agarwal. Shaw made his Test debut on October 2018 during the home Test series against the West Indies. Scoring a century in his debutant Test innings, Shaw has scored 237 runs in three Test innings (average 118.50) before the ongoing Wellington Test.

The ongoing Test against New Zealand is the first away Test for Shaw. Batting in his fourth Test innings, Shaw only managed to score 16 runs off 18 balls (two fours) before losing his wicket.

In that short period, he managed to score one boundary each against Southee and Trent Boult.

On the second ball of the fifth over of the day, Southee delivered a perfect half-volley outswinger to the right-handed opening batsman.

Compact-looking Shaw failed to handle that ball and it hit his off-stump.

Here is the video of Prithvi Shaw’s dismissal as Tim Southee accounted for his wicket:

Indian batsmen struggled that entire day while the rain cut down the day by not allowing the final session.

At the stumps of the day, India were struggling at 122 for five. While the other opener Agarwal scored 34 runs, Cheteshwar Pujara (11), skipper Virat Kohli (2) and Hanuma Vihari (7) departed cheaply.

The vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane remained unbeaten on 38 runs off 122 balls while the wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is batting on 10.

The Test debutant pacer Kyle Jamieson was the best bowler for the hosts. He finished the day with his figures reading- 14-2-38-3.

Apart from Southee (1/27), the left-arm pacer Boult (1/44) also scalped one wicket on that day.
