Champions Trophy heroics
Sourav Ganguly was not behind when it comes to winning a major tournament. After their heartbreaking defeat in the final against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2000 (ICC KnockOut Trophy), Ganguly’s blue brigade upset every team that challenged them in the 2002 Champions Trophy. The victory was clear in their minds from the first game when they beat Zimbabwe. They, later on, beat England in the group stage and knocked out South Africa in the semi-final.
Unfortunately, the final game was washed out after Sri Lanka’s batting on both occasions (including reserve day). The trophy was shared between the hosts Sri Lanka and India, thus giving Ganguly his first big trophy.
