The legendary Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev was one of the greatest captains from India who guided the team on the highest level. Under his captaincy, India won their first-ever ICC Cricket World Cup in 1983.

At the age of 23 years and 249 days, Dev first time captained the Indian team during the Amritsar ODI against Sri Lanka on 12th September 1982. At that time, he was not only the youngest Indian ODI captain, but he was also the second-youngest ODI captain in overall.

Under his leadership (1982-1987), India won 39 games in 74 ODIs (lost 33 matches and two had no results).
