In 2017, Tim Paine was considering to retire from cricket after missing out the international cricket for long six years. Due to the wicketkeeping crisis, he returned to the national squad during the home Ashes series in 2017/18 season. But it was just a beginning of his changing fate.

Australian cricket received a massive blow in late March 2018 when the ball-tampering incident exposed during the Cape Town Test. Later, the captain Steven Smith and the vice-captain David Warner faced suspensions along with Cameron Bancroft. But surprisingly, the national selectors chose Tim Paine as the captain of the Australian Test and ODI teams.

Though he was removed from the ODI captaincy role due to Australia’s poor ODI performances, he has retained the Test captaincy. Slowly he has built up a strong competitive Australian Test side and recently his team brought the away Ashes trophy (Ashes 2019) in the home after 18 long years.
