MS Dhoni (India: limited-overs formats)

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni was one of greatest captain in international cricket history. But he was also a surprising choice during India’s tough period in international cricket.
India had a disastrous experience in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 as they were eliminated from the first round of that tournament. Soon after that disaster, he earned vice-captaincy in ODI cricket. But he still wasn’t favourite to be the next limited-overs captain for India.
However, the selectors first chose him as a captain for the inaugural ICC World T20 (2007). India achieved massive success in that tournament as they won that and created a history. That success led Dhoni to earn the ODI captaincy. Around one-year-later, Dhoni also took over the Test captaincy following the previous Test captain Anil Kumble’s retirement.
Under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, India achieved many great successes in international cricket. Apart from the ICC World T20 2007 trophy, Dhoni-led India won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, ICC Champions Trophy 2013 etc. Also, Dhoni-led India became the no.1-ranked Test team. Dhoni is still the only captain to win three different ICC trophies.
