In the early days, Vijay Mehra was India’s youngest Indian cricketer to play Test cricket. At the age of 17 years and 265 days, Mehra made his Test debut during the Mumbai Test (Brabourne Stadium) against New Zealand in December 1955. He scored ten runs in the first innings while India won that match by an innings and 27 runs.

Though Mehra played his last Test in 1964, he faced many choppings from the national squad. The right-handed opening batsman played eight Tests where he scored 329 runs with an average of 25.30.
