The left-arm spinner Maninder Singh made his Test debut at the age of 17 years and 193 days. His first Test was in December 1982 against Pakistan at Karachi. In that game, he had the bowling figures of 23-2-67-0 while India lost that game by an innings and 86 runs.

From 1982 to 1993, Maninder played 35 Tests and 59 ODIs where he took 88 and 66 wickets respectively. He also has gained his popularity as a cricket commentator.
