The four-time IPL-winners Mumbai Indians (MI), who will play the IPL 2020 as the defending champions, have received a major blow before the beginning of the new IPL season as their most successful and experienced bowler Lasith Malinga has withdrawn his name from this tournament due to personal reason. The 37-year-old Sri Lankan right-arm pacer Malinga is the most wicket-taker in IPL history as he has taken 170 wickets in 122 matches.
The 30-year-old Australian right-arm pacer James Pattinson has replaced Malinga for the IPL 2020. He has no IPL experiences before this tournament.
