Australia tour of South Africa in 1996/97 – Three different players lead Australia in a 7-match ODI series
Three different players led Australian side in a 7-match bilateral ODI series during Australia’s tour of South Africa in 1996/97.
Mark Taylor led the Australian side for the first two games but then he dropped himself for the rest of the series due to his poor form. Ian Healy took charge for the next four games while Steve Waugh tasted his first international captaincy in the last game of that series due to the absence of Ian Healy.
In the meantime, Hansie Cronje led the South African side in all those seven encounters.
1st ODI (at East London on 29th March 1997): Mark Taylor led the Australian team (Hansie Cronje led the South African side) – South Africa won by six wickets

2nd ODI (at Port Elizabeth on 31st March 1997): Mark Taylor led the Australian side (Hansie Cronje led the South African team) – Australia won by seven wickets
3rd ODI (at Cape Town on 2nd April 1997): Ian Healy led the Australian side (Hansie Cronje led the South African team) – South Africa won by 46 runs

4th ODI (at Durban on 5th April 1997): Ian Healy led the Australian side (Hansie Cronje led the South African team) – Australia won by 15 runs
5th ODI (at Johannesburg on 8th April 1997): Ian Healy led the Australian team (Hansie Cronje led the South African side) – Australia won by eight runs
6th ODI (at Centurion on 10th April 1997): Ian Healy led the Australian team (Hansie Cronje led the South African team) – Australia won by five wickets
7th ODI (at Bloemfontein on 13th April 1997): Steve Waugh led the Australian team (Hansie Cronje led the South African side) – South Africa won by 109 runs
