Uganda Women Create Many World Records; Mali Women Continue Their Shameful Records

On Thursday (20th June), Uganda Women created a new record by posting the highest total in Women’s T20I history, and it happened once again against Mali Women. In that match, Uganda Women also managed to clinch the largest victory (by runs) in Women’s T20I history.

It was the fifth match of the ongoing Kwibuka Women’s Twenty20 Tournament 2019. Earlier, Mali Women made their international debut by featuring in this tournament. In their debutant T20I match, Mali Women was all out for just six runs against Rwanda Women, which is also the lowest completed total in Women’s T20I history.

In their next match against Tanzania Women, Mali Women managed the second lowest completed total in Women’s T20I history. Tanzania Women bundled out them for just 11 runs in that match. Now, Mali Women recreated a new record of the second lowest completed total in Women’s T20I history during their latest match against Uganda Women.

Uganda Women bowled out Mali Women for just 10 runs

After winning the toss, Uganda Women set a giant first innings total on the board. With the help of the twin centuries, they managed the record total of 314/2 (20 overs). The previous highest Women’s T20I record was 250/3 (20 overs) by England Women against South Africa Women at Taunton on exactly one year ago (20th June 2018). Also, the 314/2 is the highest total in the overall T20I history as the highest men’s T20I total is 278/3 by Afghanistan against Ireland at Dehradun on 23rd February 2019.

During this record total, Uganda opener Prosscovia Alako (116) and the no.3 batswoman & captain Rita Musamali (103) scored centuries. Not only in Women’s T20I history, but it is also the first time in overall T20I history (including men’s T20I), two batters scored centuries in the same innings.

Mali Women’s bowler Aicha Kone picked up the only wicket for her team while Uganda’s other dismissal happened through the run-out. Picking up that one wicket, Kone became the first Mali Women’s bowler to take a wicket in an international game.

Later, Uganda Women bundled out Mali Women for just ten runs (11.1 overs). In that innings, opener Sirantou Kagnassy (1), Mariam Samake (1), Tenin Konate (4) and Mala Djiguiba (1) were the only players to open the accounts. Konate’s innings is the highest individual score by a Mali Women’s cricketer in Women’s T20 history.

Uganda Women won this match by 304 runs. It is the largest victory in Women’s T20I history. The previous record was winning by 189 runs by UAE Women against China Women at Bangkok on 13th January 2019.

Uganda Women

i) Uganda Women managed the total of 314/2 (20 overs). It is the highest total in Women’s T20I history. The previous record was 250/3 (20 overs) by England Women against South Africa Women at Taunton on 20th June 2018.

ii) Uganda Women’s opener Prosscovia Alako scored 116 runs and the captain Rita Musamali scored 103 runs. It is the first time in overall T20I history (including men’s) when two batters scored centuries in the same innings.

iii) Uganda Women’s batters Prosscovia Alako and Rita Musamali put a 227-run partnership for the second wicket. It is the first 200+ partnership in Women’s T20I history. The previous record was 182 runs opening partnership between Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine (England Women) against South Africa Women at Taunton on 20th June 2018.

iv) Uganda Women won this match by 304 runs. It is the largest Women’s T20I victory (by runs). The previous record was winning by 189 runs by UAE Women against China Women at Bangkok on 13th January 2019.

Mali Women

i) Mali Women conceded 61 runs in extras (three byes, 30 no-balls and 28 wides). The total extras were the third highest extras in a Women’s T20I innings. Meanwhile, 30 no-balls were the second most no-balls in a Women’s T20I innings.

ii) Mali Women’s bowler Oumou Sow had the bowling figures of 3-0-82-0. It is the most expensive bowling figures in Women’s T20I history. Also, Balkissa Coulibaly had the bowling figures of 4-0-66-0 in that same innings. It is also the second most expensive bowling figures in Women’s T20I history. The previous record in this list was 4-0-59-0 by Masabata Klaas (South Africa Women) and 4-0-59-2 by Stacy Lackay (South Africa Women) against England Women at Taunton on 20th June 2018.

iii) Mali Women was bundled out for just ten runs. It is the second lowest completed total in Women’s T20I history. The lowest completed total is just six runs by Mali Women against Rwanda Women at Rwanda on 18th June 2019.
