Former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad is another big name who has applied for the national selector’s post of senior Indian men’s cricket team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking for the national selectors for senior men’s team (two posts), senior women’s team (five posts) and junior men’s team (two posts).

The deadline to apply for these posts was 24th January 2020.

The present national selection committee (senior men) consists with the chairman MSK Prasad (South Zone), Gagan Khoda (Central Zone), Sarandeep Singh (North Zone), Jatin Paranjpe (West Zone) and Devang Gandhi (East Zone). Among this five-member committee, Prasad and Kohda will end their journey at the end of this month while the other three can continue for one more season.

Some former Indian cricketers have already confirmed their applications for the national selector’s post. Some of these names are Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Rajesh Chauhan, Amey Khurasiya, Nayan Mongia, Chetan Sharma and Ajit Agarkar.

According to the latest ANI report, Prasad has also applied for this post. The right-arm medium-fast played for India between 1994 and 2001. He represented the national team in 33 Tests and 161 ODIs where he snared 96 and 196 wickets respectively.

After retiring as a cricketer, Prasad has mostly involved in coaching. Under his coaching, India Under-19 finished as the runners-up in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2006. He also served as the bowling coach for the Indian men’s national cricket team.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Prasad also coached Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).

As Prasad was also the chairman of the national selection committee of junior men’s team between 2015 and 2018. So, he can be the national selector of the senior men’s team for one-and-a-half-year.

The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly will now appoint the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). The CAC members will pick the remaining two national selectors.
