Videos: 5 hilarious wrong decisions given by third umpires in international cricket 1

  1. Sachin Tendulkar escaped from a sure run-out

It was the match between India and Sri Lanka at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi in 1996 Wills World Cup and it was the group stage encounter. It was the first ball of 26th over, where Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin was facing Sri Lankan spinner Kumar Dharmasena and Sachin Tendulkar was at the non-striker end. Azharuddin went for a single after hitting that ball while Sachin also ran towards the striker end and Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Romesh Kaluwitharana broke that stumps after picking that ball. However, there were hardly appeal from the Sri Lankan players, the leg umpire didn’t take any chances and went to the third umpire.

But the replay showed a different unexpected story as Sachin was just inches away from the crease when the stumps were broken by the Sri Lankan wicket-keeper. But more shockingly the third umpire Ikram Rabbani gave not out decision to Sachin Tendulkar. Even the commentators could not believe on that decision.

In the result, Sachin played a big innings of 137 runs in that match before getting run-out. However, Sri Lanka won the match comfortably by 6 wickets with 8 balls to spare.
