- Gilchrist dismissed but in which way?
Probably it was the most controversial dismissal in the international cricket history. It was the first match of tri-nation tournament (Sri Lanka, India, and Australia) in 1999 and that was between Sri Lanka and Australia at Galle.
Australian opening batsman Adam Gilchrist was given out by the third umpire. The replay was showing that the Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Romesh Kaluwitharana hit the stumps but the ball was fallen down before that. However, it was not needed as Gilchrist already reached in the crease comfortably before the Sri Lankan wicket-keeper hit the stumps.
But the third umpire Nandasena Pathirana shockingly gave out to Gilchrist even which commentators could not believe that. The main question of that dismissal was how the third umpire gave that decision after showing the clear replay. However, Australia won that match at the end.
