On Sunday (15th December), India and Windies are playing the opening match of the three-match ODI series at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai). While the hosts India had a poor start, Windies pacer Sheldon Cottrell dismissed Indian captain Virat Kohli in cheaply.
After winning the T20I series by 2-1, the hosts India have now started to play the ODI series against the Caribbean side. Windies captain Kieron Pollard won the toss and decided to bowl first in the first ODI. The 26-year-old all-rounder Shivam Dube, who recently impressed in the T20I format, has made his ODI debut in this Chennai ODI.

The no.2-ranked ODI side India have failed to manage a good start as they lost the first two wickets in 25 runs inside the first seven overs. Openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul had a 21-run partnership for the first wicket before Rahul (6) was sent back to the pavilion by the Caribbean left-arm pacer Sheldon Cottrell on the second ball of the seventh over in that innings. On the final ball of that over, the no.1 ODI batsman Virat Kohli also lost his wicket.
Virat Kohli b Sheldon Cottrell 4 runs (4 balls)

After coming to bat at the no.3 position, Indian captain Virat Kohli started with two dot balls before hitting a boundary to Sheldon Cottrell at the long-off. However, on the next ball, Cottrell took the revenge by dismissing the no.1-ranked ODI batsman for just four runs. It was the back of the length delivery at outside off with a low pace (124.9 kmph) which Kohli’s inside edge dragged the ball to the stumps and it removed both the bails from the wicket. It was one of the rare occasions in the present era when Kohli lost his wicket at the very early stage. Very expectedly, Kohli was very disappointed with his mistake.

Before this ODI, Virat Kohli scored two centuries in the last two ODIs against Windies. Moreover, ahead of this flop show, Kohli played three 50+ knocks (72, 120 and 114*) against Windies in his last three successive ODI innings.
