Indian captain Virat Kohli is playing unstoppable cricket at the present moment. On Friday (10th January) night, when he came to bat, he immediately created history by becoming the fastest to score 11,000 international runs as a captain.
The 31-year-old Virat Kohli is the no.1-ranked Test and ODI batsman and no.10-ranked T20I batsman at present. While the right-handed batsman is now breaking top batting records in most of the international matches, he was just one run short from 11,000 international runs as a captain before Friday’s T20I.
On Friday, India and Sri Lanka are playing the series-decider third and final T20I of the series at Pune. The visitors Sri Lanka sent the hosts to bat first after winning the toss in this crucial match. Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul provided a very good start in this match as they had the 97 runs partnership for that wicket.
However, soon after that opening partnership was broken, India lost the next three wickets very quickly. As the skipper Virat Kohli wanted to test his batsmen, he came to bat at the no.6 position. On the very first ball, Kohli took a single and completed his 11,000 international runs as a captain.
As an Indian captain, Virat Kohli was playing 196th international innings
Virat Kohli became the sixth overall captain and second Indian captain to score 11,000 international runs. While it was his 196th international innings as a captain, Kohli became the fastest captain to score 11,000 international runs.
Ricky Ponting was the previous record-holder as he completed this feat in 252 international innings during his captaincy (Australia and ICC World XI).
