Virat Kohli Unhappy After Henry Nicholls Gets Unfair Advantage In Auckland ODI

During the Auckland ODI, New Zealand opener Henry Nicholls got an unfair advantage due to the mistake of on-field umpire Bruce Oxenford. Indian captain Virat Kohli was unhappy on that unfair advantage.

On Saturday (8th February), New Zealand and India are playing the crucial second ODI of this three-match series at Eden Park (Auckland). After winning the toss, the visitors India decided to bowl first.

New Zealand openers Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls once again provided a good start as this time they put 93 runs partnership for the first wicket.

On the fifth ball of the 17th over of that first innings, Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal finally broke that partnership after dismissing Henry Nicholls. It was a leg-break on which Nicholls went for a sweep shot, but he missed it completely, and the ball hit on his back-leg. Umpire Bruce Oxenford quickly raised his finger after the Indians made the strong appeals.

After a discussion with the non-striker-end batsman Martin Guptill, Nicholls finally decided to use the DRS. However, the 15 seconds limited-time was already passed before Nicholls took that review. But, surprisingly, Bruce Oxenford allowed him to take that review.

It was the umpire’s call, Henry Nicholls was out

Luckily, it was an umpire’s call which meant that the umpire had to stay with his original decision to out. Nicholls finally lost his wicket after scoring 41 runs off 59 balls (5 fours).

After the DRS decision came out, Virat Kohli went to the umpire to talk about this. Very expectedly, the Indian captain was not happy with that DRS acceptance by the umpire while Nicholls took that after the limited-time.

Coming to the match, New Zealand set the first innings total of 273/8 (50 overs). Opener Martin Guptill scored 79 runs (79 balls), and Ross Taylor remained not out on 73 runs off 74 balls.

India are trailing this series by 1-0 due to losing the first game of this series by four wickets. The visitors can’t afford another defeat in this series.
