Indians Dominating In Virat Kohli-Led ICC ODI Team Of 2019
On Wednesday (15th January), the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the ODI Team of 2019. While the Indian captain Virat Kohli has been selected as the captain of this team, three more Indians have been added in this squad.
When talking about 2019 ODIs, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 comes first in our mind. England created history in this tournament by winning their first-ever Cricket World Cup trophy after experiencing a thrilling and unforgettable final against New Zealand at the iconic Lord’s. Two English players have been selected in the ICC ODI Team of 2019. All-rounder Ben Stokes, who won the Player of the Match award in that World Cup final, and wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler have been named in this team list.
Apart from four Indians and two English, two New Zealand and three other players from different members are also in this list
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who won the Player of the Tournament award in the ICC CWC 2019, has been included in this ICC ODI Team of 2019 along with the left-arm pacer Trent Boult. While two New Zealand players are in this squad, one player each from Australia (Mitchell Starc), Pakistan (Babar Azam) and West Indies (Shai Hope) have been named in this squad. The Aussie left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc (27 wickets) was the leading wicket-taker in the ICC CWC 2019.
But the Indian players are dominating in the ICC ODI Team of 2019 as four Indians have been included in this list. Opener Rohit Sharma, who finished as the leading run-scorer in the ICC CWC 2019 with 648 runs, is one of the openers in this list. He was also the most ODI run-getter (1,490 runs) in 2019.
The right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami and the left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav have also been selected in this squad. While Shami (42 wickets) was the most ODI wicket-taker in last year, Kuldeep (32 wickets) was the most ODI wicket-taking spinner in that same year.
Virat Kohli is leading the ICC ODI Team of the Year for the fourth successive year
Meanwhile, it is the fourth successive year when Virat Kohli is leading the ICC ODI Team of the Year. However, his team won their first-ever bilateral ODI series against Australia in Australia.
Virat Kohli is also the no.1-ranked ODI batsman while his team is currently in the second position of the ICC ODI rankings. The right-handed batsman finished that year as the second most ODI run-scorer (1,377 runs). It was the 43-member of 2019 voting academy who selected the latest ODI Team of the Year.
