Ahead of the kick off of the limited-overs home series against Australia, Team India captain Virat Kohli on Saturday (February 23) has somewhat expressed satisfaction regarding the 2019 World Cup preparations. The leader in Kohli believes the Indian team has been in good stead to pay rich dividends.
“We’re more or less sorted (with our World Cup plans),” Cricbuzz quoted Kohli as saying.
Meanwhile, India is all set to take on Kangaroos in the first of the two-match Twenty20 Internationals on Sunday (February 24) in Visakhapatnam.
Besides, Kohli maintained a couple of surprises might take fans and many cricketing pundits by surprise. He hinted the deliberate attempt is solely considered to tackle the distinct situations.
“But through the course of the series, you might see something which might surprise you as a team and which you might want to change immediately. But those are things that are upon how circumstances come in front of you,” Kohli added.
Men in Blue is a balanced side:
The top-order batsman Kohli, who has been a quintessential figure in the core group. He believes the balanced team won’t have any apprehension whatsoever. Kohli stressed most of the things stand covered before the quadrennial event schedule in the United Kingdom (UK). The multi-nation tournament will kick-off on May 30 in London.
“As of now, we feel pretty balanced as a side. And I don’t see any concerns or areas that we need to think about anymore. Everything is more or less sorted,” Kohli said.
India is scheduled to kick off their World Cup Campaign against South Africa in Southampton on June 6.
With plenty of time left for the ICC’s major event, Kohli remarked that players should be focused. He urged them to stay dedicated in the 50-over format. He added that they’re not supposed to go away from the prescribed format.
“All the people who are going to be part of the World Cup squad, they have to make sure that their games don’t go too much away from the one-day mould of things,” Kohli stressed.
The frame of mind plays an important role: Kohli
With IPL 2019 beginning on March 23 in Chennai, Kohli stated that he is going to keep things simple they way he often used to across the formats. He added the mood plays a crucial role in the lead up of the World Cup.
“That means we will have to be very wary of the bad habits that might creep in during the IPL. From a personal point of view, I would look to continue in the same way that I have in all formats over the years. And not do anything fancy because as I said, frame of mind is the most important thing getting into the World Cup,” Kohli said.
The 30-year-old Kohli addressed by saying the multiple challenges during the IPL would test the players, for sure. Kohli stated one should take responsibility while highlighting the importance of the set-up ahead of the cricketing carnival in the UK.
Kohli concluded that practice and while being on the road have often taken a toll. But the players knew it better when to gear up for the method. He suggested the players might obstruct India’s chances if they went on to push anything beyond to the perimeter.
“It all depends on how you feel physically. But everyone has to be really honest about it to themselves and accordingly see how they feel and not push themselves to the limit that might hamper the Indian team later on. I think we will all have to take responsibility for that,” Kohli concluded.
Kohli has often backed the core while taking alongside the youngsters to show positive intent.
