Indan Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), led by Virat Kohli, is still to win a single IPL title since its inception back in 2008. In the recent chat with Kevin Pietersen, Kohli revealed how desperate is he to win the trophy. He believes that RCB deserves to win the coveted T20 league title.
From the inaugural IPL season, Virat Kohli is representing the Bangalore-based franchise. He was appointed as the vice-captain of the team in 2011. After Daniel Vettori’s retirement, in 2013, he was handed over the captaincy of the team. Unfortunately, thereon, Koli has not able to lead the team to lift the trophy.
Virat Kohli on RCB’s fate:
During the candid chat with Kevin Pietersen on Instagram, Kohli said that when you have big players under your belt, more pressure comes with you. He recalled that the number of times his team has missed the opportunity to win the trophy. Well, the skipper really wants RCB to lift the coveted trophy in the foreseeable future.
“When you have the biggest players who have played for RCB there is going to be a lot of attention on the team. We are always going to be more in focus.’
“We have reached 3 finals but haven’t won a single one. Have reached 3 semis but those things are irrelevant till the time we don’t win the title. We have talked about it as well. We actually deserve to win an IPL title, to be honest.”
In the last edition of IPL, RCB ended up at the bottom of the points table. Even with some great players in the team like AB de Villiers and some premier bowlers, the team failed to live up to the expectations of their die-hard fans. The last time they entered the finals was against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016.
Meanwhile, the outbreak of coronavirus has halted all the cricketing fixtures across the globe. Also, IPL which is known as annual cricket carnival of India, has also been affected. The 13th edition of the IPL has been postponed till 15th April. Well, with the increasing cases of the deadly virus in India, the BCCI will have to take further calls to decide the final dates or it might simply not take place given to the current circumstances.
