VVS Laxman, Gautam Gambhir Predict India’s Toughest Competitors for the 2019 World Cup
Ahead of the ongoing opener of the five-match One-day International (ODI) series between hosts India and visiting side Australia, former cricketers; VVS Laxman and Gautam Gambhir during the pre-game show on the broadcasting giant Star Sports shared their thoughts by saying there are a couple of teams which could pose as a threat for India in the upcoming 2019 World Cup.
Interestingly, the pre-match show; ‘Join the Game’ – was graced by Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan alongside actress Taapsee Paanu who were there to promote their latest film ‘Badla’ (Revenge).
Interestingly, Taapsee during a show stayed firm that India will lift the coveted trophy, adding by questioning the panel of experts that who could emerge as toughest opponents against the Men in Blue in the United Kingdom (UK).
With competition kicking off on May 30 at the Kennington Oval in London between hosts England and South Africa led by Faf du Plessis, India is one of the favourite teams for the quadrennial event.
In the thirteenth edition of the ODI showpiece, India will begin their campaign against the Proteas. They’ll face-off in Southampton on June 5.

Also, southpaw Gambhir has recently announced his retirement from competitive cricket. He believes Australia could give India a tough time in English conditions.
However, Test specialist Laxman maintained that England is a force to reckon while playing at their home conditions. Pertinently, the Three Lions top the charts of ICC’s ODI Team Rankings with India sitting at the second spot.
India’s has been a dominant force in the limited-overs fold, of late.
Recently, in the series Down Under, the Men in Blue sealed ODI series 2-1, before thumping hosts New Zealand 4-1 in the five-match ODI series.
Earlier, India has registered the triumph in the Asia Cup 2018.
But the recent two-match Twenty20 International (T20I) loss have somewhat jolted Kohli’s side. Besides, the team management is looking out to iron the flaws.
With India taking on Australia in the ongoing limited-overs leg, the management has kept a close eye on the players. They’re further bound to feature in the quadrennial event.
