It is reportedly being learnt that the Indian selectors are keen on giving youngsters a chance based on their performance in the ongoing Ranji season and the IPL. Washington Sundar was tipped to be picked in the T20 series against Australia but missed the cut as he failed to clear the ‘Yo-Yo’ Test in October. However, he has now cleared the test at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore on Saturday.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians all-rounder Nitish Rana has been backed to be picked for the series, courtesy his brilliant performances in the IPL and current Ranji season. Playing for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy this season, Rana has two centuries and two half-centuries to his name. Rana was also at the NCA and has reportedly cleared the ‘Yo-Yo’ Test. Known for his aggressive style of playing Rana might get a call-up for the series as the selectors are looking to rest the regulars for the upcoming lengthy away season.

A BCCI official said:

“The selection committee is looking at a couple of bright prospects. Washington has been doing well as an off-spinning allrounder. There are a few youngsters who have been performing in the domestic circuit. But it remains to be seen whom the team management opt for this series,”

After clearing the test Washington said, “It’s a relief. I was asked to do it two days back. I was more prepared this time around than what I was in the previous occasion. I had worked hard on the fitness front and conditioned myself. It’s a confidence booster for me.”
