Wasim Akram: Incredible Test & Series Win For India

Wasim Akram, who is one the best pace bowlers cricket has ever seen, said he hasn’t seen a bold, brave, and boisterous Asian side on a tougher tour of Australia before this remarkable achievement.

“Incredible Test & series win for India have not seen a bold, brave and boisterous Asian team on a tougher tour of Australia. No adversity could stop them, frontline players injured, & won after a remarkable turn around from the depths of 36 all out, inspiring for others. kudos India,” Wasim Akram tweeted.

The last time a visiting team came out triumphant from the Brisbane Cricket Ground was back in November 1988 when the mighty West Indian outfit under the leadership of Viv Richards thrashed Allan Border’s team by 9 wickets.

Indian Win Was Even More Commendable As They Were Without Key Players

The feat is even more commendable is the Indians fought multiple injuries to key players and mental fatigue – due to the bio-bubble restrictions — to register a historic win.

India were without services of talismanic skipper Virat Kohli who headed home on paternity leave after 1st Test while Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Hanuma Vihari, Ravichandran Ashwin injured themselves during the Test series and weren’t there for 4th Test.

The likes of KL Rahul and Ishant Sharma were also injured which meant India’s bench strength was tested. But the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur rose to the occasion.

In the first Test against Australia, India was bundled out for their lowest ever Test score of 36 and there were many experts who said the visiting team will face a 4-0 drubbing. But India proved every critic wrong as the Ajinkya Rahane-led side registered famous victories at Melbourne and Brisbane.

The side also recorded a famous draw at Sydney and at every stage, this line-up overcame adversity. India’s memorable win has also ensured they toppled Australia in the ICC Test Team Rankings to claim the second spot. India are at the top of ICC World Test Championship (2019-21) points table with 430 points playing 5 series and 13 Tests during the period winning 9 and losing 3 while 1 match was drawn.
