Watch: Ashish Nehra Opens Up On Infamous Abusing Incident With MS Dhoni 1

As much as he is known for his sensational bowling display against England in the 2003 World Cup, Ashish Nehra is equally popular among the fans for the incident when he abused newcomer Mahendra Singh Dhoni when the latter spilled a straightforward catch off his bowling. Well, we are pretty sure you all have correctly guessed the bowler is none other than Ashish Nehra who recently bowed out of international cricket.

The infamous incident took place in 2005 when Pakistan had visited India. During a One-Day International in Ahmedabad, Shahid Afridi tried to cut a wide delivery from the left-arm pacer. However, the swashbuckling allrounder only managed to edge it behind the wicket. But Dhoni failed to grab the ball, much to Nehra’s dismay who did not check his emotions and bombarded his young teammate with the famous Delhi lingo.

Here is the clip showing Nehra abusing Dhoni:

Well, 13 years after that incident, the veteran pacer, who retired on Wednesday (November 1), opened about it during a chat show with Star Sports presenter Jatin Sapru.

“That was in the heat of the moment. I know you are speaking about Mahendra Singh Dhoni video. That video became more popular when Mahendra Singh Dhoni reached where he is now,” said Nehra when the presenter told him he used to lose his cool on the field.

Here is the clip where Nehra talked about the incident among many other topics:

Meanwhile, the 38-year old brought down curtains on his 18-year old cricket career after the first T20I in front of his home crowd at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla. The injury-prone pacer represented India in 164 international games across formats, taking 235 wickets.

Speaking after the game, an emotional Nehra said:

“I will miss all this. That’s what you train for. Like I said earlier, one thing that will be in peace is my body. I really pushed myself. I could have pushed for another two months or years, but who knows you can’t get better and bigger than this and it was the right time retiring in blue clothes. I must be one bowler who bowled the most number of last overs for India, but it was different sort of pressure and today was much more comfortable.”
