In the ongoing Irani Trophy between Rest of India (ROI) and the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy champions Vidarbha at Nagpur, Vidarbha opener and captain Faiz Fazal got out in a bizarre dismissal.

That incident happened on this Wednesday (13 February), on day two morning session of the ongoing Irani trophy. After ROI managed to score 330 runs at the end of their first innings, Vidarbha had a good start in reply. The openers Faiz Fazal and Sanjay Raghunath had a 50-run partnership before Faiz Fazal faced that bizarre dismissal.

On the fifth ball of the 21st over of that innings, the Vidarbha opener tried to defend a delivery from the spinner Krishnappa Gowtham. However, it found an edge and the wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan successfully grabbed that. All the ROI players were very excited, and they had a powerful appeal against Faiz Fazal. However, the bowling end umpire Nandan didn’t seem interested in ROI’s appeal until he looked at the square leg umpire Nitin Menon.

The square-leg umpire indicated that the ball hit on Faiz Fazal’s gloves. Understanding that signal, Nandan changed his mind and raised his finger to give out decision. Earlier, the ROI players felt disappointed after their powerful appeal failed to open the wicket account. But after that delayed decision, the ROI players gathered to celebrate that.

On the other hand, Faiz Fazal was stunned by that decision. He felt shocked by that decision and stayed a few extra seconds in the crease before returning to the pavilion.
