After a long time, Sri Lanka finally won a home ODI series after recently completing the whitewash against Bangladesh. During the celebration time on the ground, the Sri Lankan cricketer Kusal Mendis met with a bike accident.

It was the first international cricket assignment for Sri Lanka and Bangladesh after their completion of the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Due to the Easter bombings in Sri Lanka in last April, this tour was doubtful. Finally, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) agreed to send the national team for the three-match ODI series. R. Premadasa Stadium (Colombo) hosted all the matches of this series.

In this ODI series, Sri Lanka dominated in every aspect. The opening game of this series was the final ODI match of the Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga. Sri Lanka won that match by 91 runs. With the help of Kusal Perera’s century (111), Sri Lanka managed to score 314/8 in the first innings and Bangladesh were bundled out for 223 runs (41.4 overs).

Sri Lanka won the second ODI by seven wickets with 32 balls remaining. The visiting side Bangladesh scored 238/8 (50 overs) in the first innings while the hosts chased down that target in 44.4 overs after losing three wickets (242/3).

The third and final match of this series was dedicated to the former Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Kulasekara. Ahead of this ODI series, Kulasekara announced his retirement from the cricket. Once again, Sri Lanka dominated and won by 122 runs that also secured their whitewash dream. Angelo Mathews’ 87 runs knock helped Sri Lanka to post the total of 294/8 (50 overs). In reply, Bangladesh were all out on just 172 runs (36 overs).

It was Sri Lanka’s first home ODI series victory in the last 44 months. Before this ODI series victory, their previous ODI series victory was in November 2015 when they beat West Indies by the 3-0 margin.

The experienced Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews won the Player of the Series award. At the end of this series, Mathews was the leading run-scorer as he scored 187 runs in three innings with an average of 93.50. In this series, the right-handed batsman scored 48, 52* and 87 runs.

Kusal Mendis fell along with the bike

As a prize of the Player of the Series award, Mathews won a bike. Later, the Sri Lankan cricketer Kusal Mendis was celebrating by taking a ride on the bike along with another teammate on his back. When he was taking a turn on the ground, Kusal Mendis misbalanced and fell along with the bike. Soon, the rescue team helped those cricketers, and they quickly come out from that situation.
