MS Dhoni is again among the headlines, and why not? He produced an effective yet quick stumping to dismiss Lockie Ferguson during the Napier ODI. At 37, his batting prowess could have deemed slow, but same cannot be said about his quick hands behind the stumps. During the fag end of the New Zealand innings, the ex-India skipper showed the world why replacing him with anyone could be a blunder.
Shami, spinners drown NZ
At the McLean Park, Kane Williamson won the toss and asked the Indians to bowl first. Mohammed Shami, India’s third best seamer in the team, got two wickets early on. Both the openers, Guptill and Munro, were bowled inside first five overs itself. Later, the star of India’s last ODI at the MCG, Yuzvendra Chahal picked his quota of wickets. He had the last laugh against Ross Taylor and Tom Latham in a caught and bowled manner.
Though Kane Williamson was handling one end, he didn’t get any support from the other. As soon as Jadhav and Kuldeep got introduced into the attack, wickets started to fall. As Jadhav made light work of Henry Nicholls, Kuldeep ran through the tail. Also, he got the New Zealand captain caught at deep on 64.

Meanwhile, NZ fast bowler, Lockie Ferguson faced just three balls before falling apart. Going for the forward defence off Kuldeep, he missed it; resulting in MS Dhoni to dis-launch the bails in no time. The reaction was so quick that Lockie, who tried putting his feet back in the crease on time got late. However, the hosts in their first innings scored 157 runs.
Shami, Dhawan enter record books in Napier
During the first ODI, Mohammed Shami completed his 100th wicket in One-Dayers. Whereas, Dhawan also became the second fastest Indian to collect 5000 ODI runs.
