We Believe In Rishabh Pant’s Ability – Virat Kohli
The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has backed the under-fire Rishabh Pant. Kohli said that the team has the belief in the ability of the youngster and the fans should not put extra pressure on him. There were chants of MS Dhoni when India had played against Bangladesh in the third T20I at Nagpur, which added more pressure on Rishabh Pant.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has come under the scanner in the recent past. The Delhi youngster hasn’t been able to put forth impressive performances and he has been criticized for the same. Furthermore, it is well known that Pant likes to attack from the get-go but his poor form has forced him to adopt a sedate approach.
Pant has been on the receiving end.
Thus, Pant has been jostling with his form and constant criticism from all corners has added salt to the injury. However, Pant has received support from his captain, which matters the most.
“We certainly believe in Rishabh’s ability. As you say, it’s (also) the player’s responsibility to do well but our responsibility is to give him space, to support him. He should get support and it is disrespectful if you don’t get it.
“As Rohit (Sharma) said recently, he needs to be left alone, he is a match-winner. Once he comes good, you will see a very different version of him. He can’t be isolated to such an extent that he doesn’t do well. We are here to do things for him,” he added in the pre-match press conference.
It would be best for Rishabh Pant if he plays without any pressure. He is still young and there is no doubt that he is going to get better with time. The southpaw has been put under immense pressure in the recent past and he needs to turn the tables. Kohli has done a great job of putting his hand on Pant’s shoulder.
The left-hander has thus far scored 358 runs in the 19 T20Is at a mundane average of 19.89. Pant will have his opportunity to shut down the critics when he will play against the West Indies in the first T20I at Hyderabad on the 6th of December.
