Windies vs England 2019: Watch – Darren Bravo Doffs Hat to Charismatic Chris Gayle

Windies veteran Chris Gayle had played yet another blistering knock to keep hosts’ hopes alive in a bid to chase the mammoth 419-run target in 50 overs; though the hosts fall short of 26 runs after being bowled out on 389 in 48 overs. Well, as soon as the southpaw reached his 25th ODI hundred and second in the ongoing series, Darren Bravo paid him a glowing tribute by bowing to the power-hitter. During the fourth One-day International of the five-match Windies vs England 2019 One-day International (ODI) series, a couple of records were shattered. Also, leg-spinner Adil Rashid finished his bowling figures with five for 85 in 10 overs.

The superb batting show from both teams saw bowlers receiving a bit of beating on Wednesday (February 27) has been a highlight of the week, so far apart from Glenn Maxwell’s rollicking show in Bengaluru.

Coming back to Carribean shoes, the 38-year-old Gayle, who is soon-to-be-retired was hailed for his counterattacking innings. Earlier, Jos Buttler’s jaw-dropping 77-ball 150 with the help of 13 fours and 12 sixes, helped England to go past the 400-run mark.

Known for his pyrotechnics, Gayle brought his hundred in just 100 deliveries.

To talk about the run-fest at St George’s Grenada Stadium, West Indies Cricket Team and England jointly posted 807 runs that included staggering 46 sixes which has become a record in ODIs history.

What pushed batsman Bravo to doff his hat to legendary Gayle?

The answer is simple, but yet stunning. Yes, Jamaican rockstar Gayle, who has often made shots easier as if it takes nothing for a batsman to clear the long distance. The episode unfolded soon after Chris Woakes delivered the first ball of Windies’ 20th over.

When he was batting on 99, Gayle, who hardly prefers to scamper for a single, raced to the non-striker’s end. He did it by dropping the ball on the off-side. The short of length delivery saw Gayle easily stealing a single. In this process, the closing-in fielder almost collided with Bravo at the striker’s end.

As per a norm, Gayle took off his helmet, gave a priceless smile while going down on his knees. Following a brief pause, he raises his bat and helmet in a bid to acknowledge the home crowd.

So much so,  Gayle kept his ‘Spartan’ bat on the top of bat handle to celebrate in his own way. He has achieved a lot by thrashing opponents. Gayle amassed 162 off 97 balls with the help of 14 sixes and 11 fours.

In between, Ben Stokes got better of Gayle by cleaning him up to bring things back in England’s favour.

Meanwhile, visitors are leading the series 2-1. The final match of the series will commence on March 2 at Gros Islet Stadium in St Lucia.
