While Women’s T20 Challenge 2020 is the third season of this tournament, Supernovas won both the previous tournaments – won a one-off match in the 2018 edition (against Trailblazers) and won the triangular series (Trailblazers and Velocity, including the final) in 2019 edition.
On the other hand, it is the second season for Velocity, who finished as the runners-up in their first edition of the Women’s T20 Challenge in 2019.
Women’s T20 Challenge 2020, Match 1: Supernovas vs Velocity – Toss Report
Velocity captain Mithali Raj won the toss and decided to field first.
Mithali said after winning the toss, “We will have a bowl. We’ve got three seamers in, there will be a bit of breeze and it will get easier to chase in the second innings. For women’s cricket, it is very important to have this yearly basis. It’s also a great platform for young cricketers. We saw Shafali doing great for India.”
On the other hand, Supernovas captain Harmanpreet Kaur claimed that they are ready to do both – bat or bowl.
Harmanpreet Kaur said, “We were ready to do both, we weren’t dependent on the toss. We were champions last year and will keep continuing to do the same. We will look to enjoy ourselves. I want to put myself more into batting, hopefully I’ll bat little up and give a good start to my team. We have a good side and it was hard to decide who’ll play in the XI.”
