After thrashing the no.1-ranked Test team India in the two-match home Test series, New Zealand have climbed up to the third position in the points table of the 2019-21 ICC World Test Championship.

While India finished this New Zealand tour with the two-match Test series, the hosts won this series by the 2-0 margin. New Zealand won the first Test of this series at Wellington by ten wickets. In the second Test at Christchurch, the hosts beat the top-ranked Test team by seven wickets.

New Zealand started the home Test series against India with just 60 points

Before this Test series, New Zealand were in the sixth position in the 2019-21 ICC World Test Championship with just 60 points, which they earned after beating the hosts Sri Lanka at Colombo (PSS). The Blackcaps won the Wellington Test against India and climbed up to the fifth position in the points table with 120 points after surpassing Sri Lanka (80 points).

New Zealand added another 60 points after winning the Christchurch Test. With 180 points, the Kiwi team surpassed Pakistan (140 points) and England (146 points) and moved up to the third position in the WTC points table. Only India (360 points) and Australia (296 points) are ahead of the Blackcaps in the latest points table.

The leader of this WTC points table, India remained unmoved after the away Test series in New Zealand. Before the beginning of this series, India had 360 points but won all their previous seven Tests under this competition. As India lost back-to-back away Tests in this series in New Zealand, the leader of the WTC points table India finished with the 360 points.
