‘You Are The Best Leader I Have Played Under’ – Gautam Gambhir Wishes Anil Kumble On His Birthday

Former India captain Anil Kumble turns 49 today. Known as Jumbo, Kumble retired as India’s highest wicket-taker across formats and is regarded as the biggest match-winner with the ball.

On his birthday, Kumble is receiving wishes from his fellow cricketers but a special wish was came from Gautam Gambhir, who called him the best leader he has played under.

“Birthday wishes to India’s greatest match winner @anilkumble1074 ! Have learned so much from you and you are the best leader that I have played under! Thanks for inspiring generations of cricketers,” Gambhir wrote on Twitter.

Kumble, who played his last Test in 2008, made his comeback to the Indian dressing room in the capacity of head coach in 2016. During his tenure, Gambhir also made a comeback to the Test team after openers KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan suffered injuries in first two Tests against New Zealand in 2016. Gambhir played two Tests before being dropped.

Kumble, who was appointed for a period of one year, quit his post as soon his contract came to end due to untenable relation with Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

He later took a break from coaching and took up commentary offers. Though he is set to make a comeback to coaching as he has been appointed as Director of Cricket of Kings XI Punjab. The former India leggie will head the coaching staff consisting Courtney Walsh, Sunil Joshi and Jonty Rhodes – his appointment has not been confirmed but he is likely to join the team as fielding coach.

Kumble has earlier been associated with Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore as well.

As far as Gambhir is concerned, he retired from the game in 2018, playing his final match for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh at his home ground. He latest joined politics and won election from the East Delhi constituency.
