Delhi Capitals (DC) captain, David Warner is annoyed about his team’s batting performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, as he urges DC’s batters to back their skills.
At the top, Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh continue to fail with the bat, whereas, in chasing the target of 128 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 20, DC’s top order failed. Although In the last game, opening batter Warner batted with intent and was the highest run scorer with 57 (41).
David Warner emphasises reaction skills to play against short balls-
“If you are going to face bowling, guys who bowl at 150 kmph, you need to have the technique and method to score, and if they are going to keep coming at you and they bowl into your ribcage, you have to find a way to score,” said DC’s skipper.
In DC vs KKR game, 5 runs were needed in the last over, meanwhile, DC’s side lost six wickets for 111 runs in the 17th over, later with Axar Patel‘s unbeaten knock of 19* (22), the Delhi-based side chased down the target of 128 runs with four balls to spare.

“In the nets, it’s very difficult to practice; even in Australia, we don’t practice the short-pitch balls. I feel if you practice the short ball all the time in the game, you would be tentative. It’s a reaction skill and you have to remember that the bowlers are going to bowl only one short ball in this format and that’s a good thing for the batsman,” he further added.
The KKR batting lineup failed miserably. The match got delayed after rain affected the play, but after it begins full quota overs were assigned, and DC’s side picked wickets at regular intervals as half of the KKR side was back in the pavilion in the 11th over. Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel picked two wickets each for DC, but later in the 20th over Andre Russell smashed three sixes on Mukesh Kumar’s deliveries to take his side to a fighting total.
Now, David Warner-led side has finally managed to win a game after playing six games in IPL 2023, but they are still languishing at the bottom of the points table. For DC’s 7th game of the season, they will take on SunRisers Hyderabad ( SRH) on April 24 at Hyderabad.
